Rip Dizzy
Voted one of the best unsigned bands of 1999 by Billboard Magazine,
Rip Dizzy blends a unique combination of styles to form a tight
power-pop trio, that has been described as a modern sounding Buddy
Holly. They blend sounds as diverse as ska and rockabilly with more
traditional ones, creating radio-friendly tunes that provide a
departure from the usual alternative sound.
Rip Dizzy was formed in Virginia Beach, Virginia in the fall of 1996,
and recorded a demo later that year. CD in hand, Rip Dizzy hit the
local bar circuit and toured regionally, quickly becoming one of
Virginia's favorite bands. In 1998, the band was invited to play at
the Intel Music festival, as well as several New York City hotspots.
Rip Dizzy also left their mark when they toured the West Coast in the
summer of 1998. Their high-energy live show has earned them opening
billing for bands such as Live and Smashmouth.
"Having a good album is just one element," Bolling says of the band's
success so far. "We enjoy playing to live audiences. There's no
reason to do a show if you're not resourceful, if you don't put on a
good one."
After the successful summer of '98, Rip Dizzy headed back into the
studio to record their first full-length album for Gotham Records, No
Room To Dance. The album received excellent reviews in newspapers
and music magazines across the nation.
